2021 - 2022 Season

A Note From The Artistic Director:

Following a season comprised of entirely virtual programming, we couldn’t be happier to have welcomed audiences back into our theatre with incredible programming and a MainStage season of shows that left a great impact on our audiences. While we finish out our season 2021-2022 season in a completely different place than where we initially planned, our passionate and resilient executive team was able to come together to create one of the most successful seasons Pipe Dreams Studio Theatre has seen, and we couldn’t be prouder. If I could think of one word to describe this season, it would be “RESILIENT”.

The root of the success for our 2021-2022 season was having a passionate company of theatre artists that worked well together, that communicated regularly, and that continuously had the best interest of the company in mind. Our initial season of shows were chosen around principles outlined in our newly implemented Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Plan. With the primary goal of telling stories authentically, the topics covered in our season ranged from mental health and wellness, to body diversity, and sexual orientation.

Our Theatre:

MISSION. To offer an environment for artists to play, experiment, and explore by presenting a theatrical experiences challenge audiences to question their own perceptions of art and its connection to the human experience.

VISION: To create an empowered and engaged community of people who enable change and personal growth.

VALUES:

  • EXPERIMENTATION: Because trying new things is cool .

  • HISTORY: Because we’re learning from what we did.

  • PROFESSIONALISM: Because no one likes to work with asshole.

  • COLLABORATION: Because even a one person show takes more than one person.

  • QUALITY: Because people don’t like shit.

Our plan to produce the World Premiere production of Grace and The Ghost, Dogfight, Dog Sees God, and World Premiere production of Something Like Summer evolved for a multitude of reasons. As many theatre’s have learned by trying to produce during COVID times, it is important to remain flexible and resilient. Due to lockdowns and vaccine distribution in Australia, our international collaboration for the world premiere of Something Like Summer unfortunately needed to be withdrawn from our season.

Our season was originally slated to open with Dogfight the musical, with plans to open up discussions about body image and collaboration plans with Broadway Body Positivity project. However, we would not have produced a show that told the story authentically with the way in which it was cast. After long talks with the company, executive team, and creative team, we decided it was best to pull the show from our season.

All of that being said, our solidified season was then Grace and The Ghost, Dog Sees God, and Fun Home, which proved to be incredibly successful. After over a year of virtual programming, we prevailed and were able to resiliently welcome audiences back with impactful stories being told authentically.
