so,who are we?
Pipe Dreams Studio Theatre is a nonprofit student run theatre company on the campus of Millikin University. We are a student venture created by the Center for Entrepreneurship in the Tabor School of Business at Millikin. We share parentage with the Department of Theatre and Dance, a higher level education department that has produced artists such as Sierra Boggess (The Little Mermaid, Broadway; Love Never Dies, West End), Annie Wersching (24, Fox Television), Jodi Benson (The Little Mermaid, Walt Disney Pictures), Tim Shew (Les Miserables, Broadway) as well as many others.
As a venture of the Center for Entrepreneurship, we’re run entirely by students. Our Team consists of an Artistic Director, Managing Director, Production Manager, Director of Sales and Marketing, and Director of Development – all of which perform duties modeled off small professional theatres. We meet twice a week in a class setting with our company advisor, and report monthly to a Board of Directors. Our Board consists of University Staff as well as Decatur community members. Members of our advisory board hold titles such as: Coleman Foundation Fellows, Actors Equity Association, USITT Technician of the Year recipient.
Our space is unique. We function in a black box theatre, which is shaped just like it sounds. Our theatre is four walls and a floor, all black, that we put in various configurations to suit the nature of the production. We have shows done in the proscenium style, thrust, arena, and runway. This provides our directors and designers (also undergraduate students) the opportunity to Play, Experiment, and Explore.
we are on a mission
to offer an environment for artists to play, experiment, and explore by presenting theatrical experiences that challenge audiences to question their own perceptions of art and its connection to human experience.
we also have a vision
to build ourselves into a reputable theatre company
and we stand for!
'cuz trying new things is cool!
'cuz we're learning from what we did.
'cuz no one likes to work with a bitch.
'cuz even a one person show takes more than one person
'cuz people don't like shit!
